By The Grace... He Came Out Screaming
Taylor and her husband had prayed earnestly for a child, trusting that in God’s timing, their prayer would be answered. And one day, it was—she was pregnant. But their journey into parenthood would be marked not by ease, but by faith, perseverance, and the grace of God through some of the scariest moments they’d ever face.
From the very beginning, Taylor’s pregnancy was difficult. She was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, a rare and severe form of nausea and vomiting that caused her to lose 25 pounds. Simple tasks like getting out of bed became monumental. She spent multiple visits in ERs and urgent care facilities receiving fluids. At one point, due to hurricane-related shortages, even fluids were hard to come by. Eventually, she was assigned a home health nurse, placed on a continuous medicine pump, and kept under close watch.
Around the halfway point of her pregnancy, things began to look up. But then came another blow—she developed a painful rash that turned into cellulitis, leading to another hospital stay and a round of steroids and antibiotics.
Then came the third trimester. Taylor’s blood pressure spiked. She was diagnosed with preeclampsia, and her baby was found to have fetal growth restriction. Her doctor hoped she could carry to 37 weeks, but warned that it was unlikely.
That prediction proved true.
In the early morning hours of March 26, Taylor woke with unbearable stomach pain. She tried to push through it, thinking it might be heartburn, but it only worsened. When she began vomiting uncontrollably, she and her husband rushed to the ER at NAMC, where bloodwork revealed her liver was inflamed and failing.
With her doctor out of town, Taylor was sent by ambulance to Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, where things rapidly took a turn for the worse. Her platelets were plummeting. Her liver was failing. She had developed HELLP syndrome, a rare and life-threatening pregnancy complication.
Within ten minutes of her test results coming in, she was being prepped for an emergency C-section. Because of her risk for blood clots, she had to be fully sedated. It all happened so fast.
At 8:30PM, baby Troy was born.
He weighed just 3 lbs 10 oz, but came out crying—no oxygen needed—thanks to the steroid shots Taylor had received just days earlier to help develop his lungs.
Troy was immediately taken to the NICU, where he spent the next month growing stronger every day. Taylor’s body, too, began to recover. And what once seemed like a string of emergencies became a testimony of answered prayers and survival.
Today, Troy is nearly 8 pounds—happy, healthy, and full of light.
Taylor shares their story in hopes that it will bring encouragement to other women walking through high-risk or traumatic pregnancies. She wants them to know they’re not alone. And she wants to remind all of us of just how precious life really is.
God not only heard their prayers—He carried them through every terrifying moment.
And by His grace, both Taylor and Troy are here.
