By the Grace... She Survived the Unthinkable

On June 23, 1992, Angie Davis Lipsey’s world stopped.

Her five-year-old daughter, Tori DeAnna Lipsey, had been riding a go-kart when it struck a tree. The impact caused blunt force trauma to her abdomen, and from the outside, the severity wasn’t immediately known. But inside, her small body was fighting for its life.

Tori was taken to ICU in Moulton, where she stayed from Tuesday to Friday. Unknown to everyone at the time, her small intestine had ruptured and detached from her stomach. For three days, her bowels had been leaking into her abdominal cavity, creating an intense, life-threatening infection.

She was rushed to Huntsville Hospital, where a trauma team was standing by. Tori was taken into emergency surgery immediately. Doctors worked for over five hours, removing 8 cm of her small intestine and flushing out the infection. They placed a picc line in her neck, multiple IVs, and two drain tubes to help her body fight back. She was swollen with fluid, her body pumped full in an effort to stabilize her, and she was placed into a medically induced coma.

The prognosis was grim:

  • 30/70 chance of survival

  • Likely need for a colostomy bag

  • Potential neurological damage

  • High risk of pneumonia

  • A long road ahead with possible reconstructive surgery

But Angie and her family refused to give in to fear. They stood on God’s Word for divine healing, praying and believing for a miracle. Her pastor came and sat by her side all night, reading Scripture over her comatose body and speaking life into the room.

And then, the tide began to turn.

Tori never ran a fever.
She suffered no nerve damage.
She didn’t need a colostomy bag.
She recovered fully, defying every medical expectation laid out before them.

Today, Tori is alive, healthy, and the proud mother of two beautiful children.

What started as a tragic accident in 1992 became a testimony of faith, healing, and the undeniable hand of God. Angie said it best:
“When you can’t do anything for your child but pray—it brings things to a whole new level.”
