From Lawrence County to Canada: Holly’s Incredible Rescue Journey
On September 25th, Katja Randolph family responded to an urgent plea from the Lawrence County Animal Shelter. Overcrowding had left the shelter struggling to care for dozens of animals, including a litter of 10-12 puppies. Among them was Holly, a severely underweight puppy battling worms and parasites.
The Randolphs opened their home to foster Holly, giving her the care and support she needed to recover. Through a connection with Niagara Dog Rescue in Canada, facilitated by a shelter volunteer, Holly’s future began to take shape. However, Canadian regulations prohibit puppies from entering the country unless a permanent home has already been secured.
Holly stayed with the Randolph family while the rescue worked to find her an adopter. Over the following weeks, she received necessary vaccinations, including rabies and parvo, and began to thrive. The family sent regular updates and photos to the rescue, helping Holly’s story gain attention.
Eventually, Niagara Dog Rescue matched Holly with a loving family in Canada. On December 27th, she made the journey to her forever home, marking the end of her time in foster care.
“She’s definitely one of the best dogs we’ve ever fostered,” the Randolphs shared, reflecting on Holly’s journey.
Holly’s story is a shining example of how fostering and rescue efforts save lives. The collaboration between the Lawrence County Animal Shelter, Niagara Dog Rescue, and dedicated families like the Randolphs makes these happy endings possible.
