The One Thing They Wish They Could Take Back — Lawrence County Opens Up
Everyone has that one “what if” moment that sticks with them — a choice they didn’t make, a chance they didn’t take, or a path they wished they’d walked down. When we asked y’all what you regret not doing to this day, the answers came flooding in — some lighthearted, some heartfelt, and some downright funny.
Dreams Deferred
Many shared regrets about education and careers. Several folks, like PhillipLisa Lawrimore, Betty Sanderson, Tasha Woods, and Diana King, wished they had finished high school. Others like Dannielle Nichole, Katrina Michelle Adkins, and Kasey Brannon regretted not finishing their degrees. Greg Gentry told a striking story of passing up a Wall Street opportunity that could have changed his life. Candy Cannon said she wished she had gone into the Air Force right out of school, while Michelle Parker regretted not choosing Auburn over UNA. And Karen Glennon shared that she once had someone ready to pay her way to pursue singing, but chose family life instead.
Family & Personal Choices
Plenty of answers came from the heart. Martha Woodruff Mullins wished she had gone to church with her kids instead of just sending them. Candi Lackey regretted not spending more time with her mom, and Carolyn Thornton said she wishes she had cherished her babies’ early years more. Kim Sessions Vines still hurts over not staying with her beloved dog Buddy when he was put down. On the flip side, some regrets were wrapped in humor: Tammy E. Terry joked she should’ve throat-punched a few folks, and Sandra J. Layne said she should’ve run the other way on her wedding day.
Missed Chances & Life Lessons
From not buying bitcoin when it was cheap (Charles Burks) to selling off Hasselblad cameras (John Graham), folks remembered the “if only” moments. Vanessa Terry regretted giving up a gold claim in Alaska, while Lisa Heaps Martinez passed on a sports scholarship. Patty Terry wished she could’ve been there for family more, and Pamela Haynes and Macy Gunn both regretted not standing up for themselves sooner.
Of course, not everyone lives with regrets. Laura Terry Powell and Jessika Rose both said they wouldn’t change a thing, because different choices would have led to different lives — and they love the lives they’ve got.
What about you? What’s something you regret not doing — or are you one of the lucky few with “no regrets”?
